Easter and slides

A bit quieter than usual around here. Last week's lone post had been scheduled in advance, so this was sort of like a small break from the journal. Easter came and went, early and chilly. We're way past egg hunts...but chocolate's still a thing. For all of us I might add :)

Jacob and Anaïs are both leaving to study in the fall. That's a small earthquake right there. So this old slide projector Cynthia found over the weekend, tucked away in her mom's closet... it's hard not to see it as a mechanical metaphor. The whirring fan and loud clacking, displacing time haphazardly, skipping and jamming, eating through decades and faces and homes. So many young ghosts, smiling—unknowing. It's bittersweet and messy, but you still laugh.

You accept the whirlwind.

I brought back a light table and a boxful of slides. Pictures that were shot during trips to Spain, and France, by Cynthia's grandparents—in the 1950s-60s I think? Just out of historical (and photographic) curiosity. I need a lightbulb for it though.

RE the images below: for a change of pace, I shot the X-H2 with the XF 18-55mm zoom. The New and the Old. Another metaphor?
Nah.
