Quarantine Day 05 | Or what if our apex should hide within the multitude
The Stephen Shore book is like getting hit by a big loud truck of lightning. Or injected with flaming jet fuel. Or something along those lines. It’s the images themselves of course, but also the photographer’s obvious hunger for constant expression and experimentation.
I made it through the first essay, leafed through the collected pictures…but then I couldn’t stay put. I unpacked my GFX 50S from its case, still sitting under the plastic tarp covering most of my gear downstairs. Our aborted construction project. I set the camera to shoot raw only—a nod to Shore’s large format work but also an attempt at messing with my usual setup. How many times can these walls, these close quarters be reinterpreted? I intend to find out in the coming days.
One more thing: my friends Kevin Mullins and Neale James—of Fujicast fame—have moved to a daily format, in solidarity with our current worldwide predicament. An absolute breath of fresh air if you can catch it. The fresh air I mean. Not the bug. Ugh...time to go methinks.
