Maybloom and other ramblings
Some days we get up around 5am. In winter the sun 's still down and stars still shine and I get to watch the sky brighten, slowly, behind Mont St-Hilaire. I used to dread this, waking in the dark, having to turn on lights around the house. I'd recoil at the glare and remain unsettled for most of the day, as if I'd tampered with the fabric of reality. But with spring, darkness recedes early and I miss it. I've come to love watching my world ignite and shift, from timid blue/grays to pinks and yellows. It doesn't' even matter if I slept well or not. Witnessing this unfurling quietly refreshes my bones, the apocalyptic silence like a balm. Nothing's wrong yet, it says. Life is limitless.

I read a post from Greg Morris the other day that scared me a little. It's a good article in which he adresses his shifting interests, away from technology and all the things that once motivated him to write. An acknowledgment I can relate to. But it's his opening paragraph that hit home:
“There's a tendency, when you talk about things you're not interested in any more, to come across like you're using it for ego. As if by saying such a thing you're declaring your interests are somehow better than what other people care about. It gets sharper when the things you've gone off are things you used to be deep into yourself, as if you've moved on to some higher plane and now look down on the rest. That's not what I'm doing here, and I want to make that clear before I get into it.”
Have I done that? I sure hope not. This blog has always been about whatever's driving me, but I hold zero answers about anything. I grasp and flail, and succeed and fail, in public, as a way to understand but also—selfishly— to find a sounding board. That's always been the reward. Comments or emails showing me other points of view, in agreement or not. I know I can get enthusiastic about stuff I discover, which sometimes leads to becoming dismissive of things I've moved on from. But just know that I never consider any of it The Truth. It's always—and only—my truth.
And it's definitely not a "higher plane".

This topic is old and tired but folks, everyone's freaking out about the weather right now. It's May but most days are still hovering around 10ºC below average. Frost warnings at night. Of course warmth is coming...one day....eventually. Right??
Plants are stubborn though. They brace and fight and bloom FTW. Thank goodness for that. The shrubs we moved last summer have pulled through, as did several ferns and hostas I'd feared to be dead after the drought. It seems they dried up, hid, and waited. Even the "wild" cherry tree I transplanted made it through and appears to be thriving despite the temperatures. (1)
Green still swallows all, like clockwork.

Later.
1: At least I think it's a cherry tree (so does the app I used). It sprouted randomly in the middle of nowhere, too close to our fence, so I moved it to a better spot.
