A pledge to intentional wonderment

It's good to review your trajectory once in a while, especially when something feels off. I hadn't archived the blog since the holidays and yesterday, when I did, I wasn't exactly thrilled by what I saw. I began 2026 with Thugs (US rant). Since then, I've written Is Anyone There? (AI rant), Movement, Adaptation (another US rant), and Apple? Yes, Apple (passive aggressive rant about...well, you know). That's four out of seven posts that don't exactly scream luminous. Now, these are tough times for the Pollyannas of the world. Tough times to even attempt looking away without feeling treasonous. But I see myself sinking deeper and deeper into the mire with every word I write on the subject(s). It's a spiral, and I hate contributing to the momentum—however urgent and necessary it seems.

Don't get me wrong: all of those posts reflect my positions RE the world we live in, the terrible truths revealed over the past year, and an ongoing descent into a reality I no longer recognize. But I could keep adding to an endless list, denounce and rail and shout in anger every single day and never be done. We all know what's at stake, and we know what's in our individual power to do. You don't need me to tell you.

I'm going to pull a Marie Kondo and write solely about things that bring me joy; let the rest be condemned through inattention. At least for a while. Yes, I know I've made similar promises before, and fallen off the wagon each time. Because it's tough. The line between silent acquiescence and boycott gets awfully hard to figure out when people die, or the threats hit home. Or when a company you trusted shows its lack of values and care.

But life needs light for god's sake.

A short list of "joys" from the past few weeks:

Most days I meditated, lifted weights, did some pushups.

Most days I wrote.

Every day I walked with Watson in a beautiful, white, frigid landscape (our coldest, snowiest, winter in years).

Every day I read. Every day I listened to music.

I shot pictures.

I crafted a small 3X5 card holder out of a piece of wood (because I couldn't find a product that fit).

I made prints with an Instax Square Link printer and posted them on our fridge.

I started a Midori 5 year diary. A few lines per day, separate from my other journals.

I accepted a gig for a client I enjoy working with.

I prepared a new post for KAGE.

I started work on a second La Sonde album, and finalized the Black Glitter Diaries remaster.

Most days I also gazed at the sky and trees from my favourite chair.
I made peace with changing seasons
and impermanence.
