Mock Summer

Remember what I said about April in the last post? How you can't trust it?

We just had a spectacular weekend. Spectacular and cruel—like the best and sweetest days of June, but with a looming expiration date. Because you know it's a lie. You know it's a lie yet you bask in the moment, get your fill of degrees and sun, play the game, accept the pretence. You do it even if nothing's right: the light's too harsh, the colours oddly muted, devoid of scent or weight or taste. Shadows are all edges, thin and sharp and acidic.

But it's respite.
Enough to tide us over.

I grabbed my X100F for these, shot straight to black and white JPEGs—with in-camera grain to boot. I also stopped down way more than usual: a small rebellion against abstraction...
