Device Light: a Sequence
It’s Friday again and Spring Break is almost over. That’s an Americanism btw: in French we call it relâche scolaire, which translates to a more appropriate school break. It may be spring somewhere in the world...but not here, not yet. We got to sleep-in a bit later than usual. We watched Soul (it was...ok). Our popcorn maker died, so I tried my hand at the good old stovetop method (it works).
I also reached for my camera again—more than I recently have. I’ve been feeling a need to sharpen reflexes dulled by months of apathy. We are emerging...slowly, but we are.
These images are of our youngest daughter, lit by the faint blue light of an iPad. I normally would’ve changed the chronological order of the sequence, and in fact I’ll be looking at this (as well as the reasons behind it) in the Society’s next Dissection post. But I thought it would be interesting to post it as captured, just to see how it evolved from first to final shot: 6:13:50 PM to 6:14:22 PM.
ISOs range from 4000 to 12800—it was dark—but the highest values are due to pilot error: my shutter speed was initially manually set to 1/250s. I realized the mistake and switched to aperture-priority. And yet, my favourite picture is #3...the one at ISO 12800, before I changed settings.
The moment always matters.
