In Raw
Between changing computers and the sporadic nature of work, I’ve done more than my usual share of archive diving these past 12 months. And along the way I discovered something surprising: I used to shoot raw much more than I do now. For personal work I mean. Certainly much more than I remember. Family images I was convinced had been shot in JPEG on the X-Pro1 or X100S for instance, have turned out to be raw files. Those years were all about exploring the uncharted territories of a new system, so it makes complete sense to have experimented with all it had to offer.
It’s anecdotal, but interesting. Over time I think I may have typecast myself as The Film Simulation Guy, making it almost a point of pride to always shoot in JPEG if I could. But it’s a box, isn’t it? As limiting as the “I Shoot Raw” box.
So in the spirit of this week’s Spring Break, renewal, the thermometer going above 0º, yada yada… I switched the X-Pro3 to raw over the weekend; I plan on doing the same with my other cameras too.
I’m shaking the doldrums.
Btw: these were all processed in Capture One 21 using the Classic Negative profile on the raw files. It’s different from SOOC but I don’t dislike it.
