Resilience
This post is part of The Quiet Lane series.
I set aside my first cup of coffee. Clouds had moved in, winds picking up. Cynthia had stepped out for a morning walk with Watson—rain would come, maybe. For now, spring was being kind.
I set aside a lurking darkness too, trying my best to quiet this brewing revolt inside me and accept new truths. I looked around our living room, at the nine tomato seedlings, set in a row by the window, bending stems towards the light. Seedlings borne of an ordinary supermarket tomato, of all things. I set aside my thoughts of tomorrow and observed through the camera’s eye instead. I saw life there, in the abstract harmony of shadows and shapes.
Life, resilient.
