Every year it’s a surprise. We look out the window one day, notice the time and marvel at the sun, sitting well above the horizon line. Snowbanks are still high, words still puff out of our lungs and we dress like astronauts...but there is a radiance now

& a promise renewed.

These are still Classic Negative JPEG files but I went back in time on the processing. In the sense that I used an older workflow. When I came back from the UK trip last summer I modified the way I edited my images, to fit with the much flatter Eterna simulation I’d used on the X-T3. I essentially created a couple of new styles in Capture One, and these soon became my new default starting point. I still love the way these styles interact with Classic Neg files, so much that everything I’ve shot with the X-Pro3—from the pre-production model (all the promo images) to my own camera—has used this baseline. It would’ve worked on these as well. It did, actually, but then I went back to the drawing board. Something about the mood here required a different approach.
I’m well aware that I might be the only one to notice the difference. To me it’s something slightly “rounder” in the tonalities. At the end of the day, whatever feels right must be right...

P.S I dusted off the old 23mm f/1.4 this weekend. Call it X100V envy? It’s a lovely lens…but big. I might finally spring for the f/2 at some point.
