On a slow boat to nowhere
Update: The original text mentioned a rowboat. It was actually a small motorboat. Not sure why I wrote that...
Strange scenes will sometimes pop out of nowhere, unassuming yet perfectly improbable. I was getting in the car after dropping off our youngest daughter to her first dance class. Didn’t know where I was headed really, just thought I’d roam around with the camera, see what it got me.
As I was ready to get behind the wheel I noticed this motorboat, right smack in front of me, shipwrecked against some trees behind the school. Someone must’ve dumped it there during the summer. But who does that? Who drives into a residential neighbourhood and hauls a heavy wooden boat into someone else’s backyard?
I never left. Sometimes all you need is right there in front of you — so totally odd, broken and surreal.
