l-UNIT: DeskWorks 001

Welcome to the first l-UNIT attempt.

I call it an attempt because, as you'll see, I'm very much on my own—this is reshoot of the entire session. Two reasons for this:

  1. I discovered that Zoom throttles down video quality significantly, as soon as there are more than 2-3 users. Even with a Pro account. And despite touting how the Pro level allows you to have 100 participants. Participants who won't see anything, apparently.

  2. Zoom also recorded the gallery view. And while it's fun to see everyone, it doesn't make for very compelling content.

I do want to thank those of you who attended though: it really WAS great to "meet" face to face and be able to just chat directly, answer questions etc. So I'm not ditching the concept. But given what I now know about Zoom, I'll be changing the way we do it. More to come on this front.

About this tour: keep in mind that it's an overview of an evolving setup. Which means things change, and often. This past weekend, for example, I discovered a plugin called Metadata Menu which has significantly transformed how I add, and manage, the frontmatter metadata required to power the Dataview queries mentioned in the video. I no longer need to rely on tags for project status, for instance. And it provides a quick graphical UI as well:

But those are details: the core concepts I describe still apply. Hit the comments if you have any questions. On with the show..
