Radar 01

Here I go again, framing a post in yet another new "Format". No big promises this time though: since ending my newsletter, I've missed linking to articles, books, music, apps, etc. So these will be more like lists than full-blown posts—anything that ended up on my radar this past week (I know, I impress myself with the cleverness).

No schedule or deadlines either: the posts will appear when they appear. Just simple, old school (and human) web weaving.

The IndieWeb Is Punk Manifesto
Speaking of human web weaving...
I couldn't agree with this more, and not out of misplaced nostalgia: we're effectively losing an important part of ourselves, collectively. I'd read the projections and had no reason to doubt their analysis, but I still couldn't bring myself to believe it would ever happen this quickly. It is. It's up to us to keep real connections—and content—alive.

Why Fish Don't Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life by Lulu Miller, (Paperback) | Indigo
Don't be fooled by the subtitle: this isn't at all sappy. The book is a surprising (and successful) mix of science, history, and true-crime. Yup, odd. Trust me, it works. I borrowed it from our library and read it in two sittings.

Portable HD Lossless Music Player-ECHO MINI
In New Old Phone I mentioned the recent rise of dedicated music players. This is one that caught my attention.

La Sonde Discography - Download Albums in Hi-Res - Qobuz
All my albums are available on Qobuz, a French music service (i.e France, not language). I found this out by accident a few days ago. The irony is that I was a subscriber for a couple of months, and loved it, until I faced the fact that it made little sense to pay for TWO music streaming services (with mostly identical content). Full access to my own discography, if only for monitoring purposes, was a big reason to stay with Apple Music (the other was the kids). But I might reconsider now, especially in light of recent events (and another Apple price hike). Other projects available as well:

Jade Leary Discography - Download Albums in Hi-Res - Qobuz

AgBr — B&W Film Emulator — Nuevo.Tokyo
A photography-related link to end on, and another random find (through Daring Fireball of all places). Slick design, no sub, single price for iOS, iPadOS and macOS. Just plain fun, with lovely film-like results. It's also heavily discounted at the time of writing.

Later.
