Of Aftermaths

Given the title and timing of this post, I’m guessing many of you are expecting one of my political rants. But an eerie calm has come over me. Last night we watched early results, then quickly switched to the last episode of The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix. Such a good show.
When it ended we went back to network tv: there was no wave, no repudiation—and my heart, broken and screaming for so many years, suddenly disengaged itself. Whatever happens, American unity is likely generations away by now. And sadly, what was all too predictable came to pass in the middle of the night as well; a herald of the meandering road ahead.

No, the aftermath I’m alluding to is in fact of an entirely different nature: the 1EYE SOCIETY project, launched a month ago.
Sometimes you mess up, but sometimes others mess up for you. I won’t bore you with details, but suffice it to say that my Wordpress.com experience, ten years after my last WP website, was an absolute disaster. I can’t even count the number of hours I spent on support chat and emails, debugging native, built-in features that would either not work properly or break, out of the blue. Very friendly support staff...but in the end utterly useless.
One morning I woke up to yet another issue, contacted support (again, before my first cup of coffee) and during our chat it dawned on me that I was pointlessly attempting to build a house on quicksand.
So, long story short: 1EYE SOCIETY membership is now part of THIS website. Which, yes, explains the new menus and that floating login widget in the bottom-right corner. This was no small undertaking as you can probably imagine, but in retrospect, the integration is painfully logical: the new content was always going to be an extension of everything published right here—sometimes directly with DISSECTIONS, but also in spirit and approach. Creating a separate entity only lead to confusion. The fact that I’d chosen that route to avoid complications is...well...sadly ironic.
The most crucial part of this move, however, is that everything now works flawlessly.
Home. Sweet. Home.
As part of the change I also launched a private 1EYE SOCIETY Slack community and I have to say it’s been really fun so far, just a week into it. It’s nice to be able to hold live conversations and catch up with topics others bring up. Much nicer than the forum I’d banked on initially.
The moral of the story: sometimes it's better to cut your losses and get it right. Makes for much more restorative sleep too ;)
