We're in the deep throes of winter up here, swinging from extreme cold to above average temperatures. You just can't dress for this stuff: -20ºC in the morning, and 2ºC in the afternoon?
Last week the weather app displayed information I'd never seen before: “feels like -41º”.
Ok.

Of course, we're the fortunate ones. We have a roof over our heads, food and safety. My heart goes out to the victims of this massive earthquake in Turkey and Syria, as the death-toll keeps rising. To Ukrainians, a year into an unjust and cruel war.

For us the sun still gets to shine unobscured, and our days pass quietly...

I met Pete Bridgwood in 2014, in Germany. We'd been invited by Fujifilm to speak at Photokina, and at the time he'd just published a very interesting post about dealing with X-Trans raw files in Lightroom. Super nice guy btw. It's funny because, despite going back to LR, I'd completely forgotten about his method until last week, when 1EYE SOCIETY member Eric posted a link to the article on our Slack channel. Scratch that: a newly-revised version of the article, barely a month old. Talk about timely.

A late update

I wrote the words you just read and prepared this issue on Wednesday morning, while listening to music, and drinking coffee. I had other things to work on before lunch, so I did that. When I got up and looked at my phone, around 12PM, I saw a headline and froze: a bus driver had rammed his vehicle into a daycare center, in Laval, fifty minutes from where we live. I tuned in to Radio-Canada. In the minutes that followed we learned that two young children had died, one at the site of the crime, the other at the hospital. Twelve kids were hit, so it could've been worse. And yet, it's already unfathomable.

It's 3:58 PM at the moment, and we still have very few details on the motives—if there were motives. The man was 51 years-old. Naked, apparently. Three neighbours subdued him until the police arrived.

Our kids are way passed daycare, but it's impossible not to project yourself, not to imagine the grief and powerlessness those parents must feel. I remember dropping off Jacob, Anaïs and Héloïse, never for one second imagining they could be in danger.

We'll learn more in the coming days.
But I think everyone's heart is shattered today.
