Hi Subscriber First Name,

As a music devouring teenager, the name Mick Rock sounded way too perfect to be true: a rock photographer called Rock? I mean, come on. I even doubted it was an actual family name. Kind of ironic don’t you think? But then I would only realize how my own name sounded to the english world a few years later, on a beach in the Outer Banks, surrounded by kids we’d just met:  »Your name is La Rock?? Man, that is SO wicked cool!. I’d never thought of it as cool. Like, ever. 

Michael David Rock passed away recently, taking with him another chunk of our collective past. Every time this happens I’m reminded of that old Star Trek TNG episode, where Dr. Crusher is trapped in an alternative reality of her own making, as everything and everyone is systematically torn out of existence. 

Rock’s pictures, however, remain. 

If you’ve never watched the 2017 film Shot! The Psycho Spiritual Mantra of Rock and you’re interested in the persona/era, check it out. I caught it on Netflix a few years back and it was well worth the trip. And it is a trip. Bombastic.
