I installed macOS Sonoma yesterday, and I can report that all looks well so far. The most fragile part of these upgrades, in my case, is always compatibility with audio plug-ins in Logic Pro, but everything I use is working perfectly: Arturia, Valhalla, Aberrant DSP, and 112DB.

If you're looking for in-depth information on the new OS, MacStories has their usual deep-dive that's worth a look. This isn't an earth-shattering upgrade by any means, but there are welcome changes: I'll likely be moving all PDF files to Notes, and I've already liberated widgets from their side-drawer gulag. Baby steps.

I'd been running betas of both iOS and iPadOS all summer long, so it's nice to finally get feature parity on the new Mac Mini.

In The Web People Forgot, I mentioned an app called Unread in the comments. I do all my reading on the iPad, and this has been my RSS app of choice for many years now. I'm a fan of feed readers that are more magazine-like than email-like, and Unread strikes a pleasant balance between visuals and information.

I really enjoy this app, but in all those years I never got used to this one, specific behaviour: when reaching the end of an article, the app jumps to the next one if you “flick up”. It makes total sense, like flipping to the next page of a book. Except that I constantly trigger this inadvertently by scrolling down too quickly, before I'm finished reading. Nervous fingers or something. A small annoyance, but multiply it enough and it becomes downright bothersome.

Anyway, about a month ago I decided to email Unread's developer, about my experiences with the app, and about this one nagging issue. I got a quick reply from John at Golden Hill Software, promising to look into it.

And he did.
And he fixed it—with a new toggle for "Overscroll Actions".
And he emailed back about the change as soon as the update was released.

Unread is an inexpensive yearly subscription, but like all subscription these days, I tend to evaluate their actual value at renewal time.

Well, this app isn't leaving my screen anytime soon.
