Afterwave
What you're seeing at the moment is my head, peeking above the water, as waves retreat. I spent most of the past month fixated on a presentation I finally gave last Sunday, for Fujifilm's Create with us/Créez avec nous event at Marché Bonsecours in Montreal (where the World Press Photo exhibit is currently held).
I wrote something entirely new, an attempt at understanding the cycles and ultimate purpose of creative work, based on personal experiences and the reflections I've had for awhile now (which I'll share soon). Anything new always raises the nerve factor, but I mostly hoped the topic wouldn't depress the s%& out of attendees. I don't think it did. I received some very nice comments so...relief.
The entire event was a lot of fun. I can't name everyone but it was incredibly nice to see Mustafa Hacalaki and Jonathan Bielaski again, along with friends who showed up and the gang from Fujifilm. Béatrice Vu also, who does lovely work with NGOs. And hanging out with Dawson College grads brought a nice infusion of wild eyed energy.
I headed two photo walks during the day as well, both focusing on a "monochrome immersion"—a fancy way of saying we shot in black and white. So I got my steps in and got to chat even more.
Huge thx to the folks at Fujifilm, and a big hello to everyone I had the pleasure to meet and engage with. A few pics from the day below—all shot with my in-camera Daido preset (processed in LR).
