Dawn & Dusk & Repeating Patterns
It’s been a rough week so far, and I’m not sure why. The dead of winter certainly plays its part. But I went from an air of lightness and excitement to whatever this is, within barely twelve hours. A black curtain descending as the weekend wore on.
I fear the transformation of this blog into a festival of grievances. I’ve never shied away from sharing the emotional landscape of the day...it’s kind of the point of a journal. But there’s just so little else nowadays.
You know what I miss the most? The unknown. I miss looking at something or someone I didn’t know existed two minutes earlier. I miss doorways leading to uncertain rooms, full of strangers’ eyes, danger and possibilities.
And I so long to point my camera towards infinity.

Photo Life magazine—a publication I had the great privilege to shoot and write for—is officially another casualty of this pandemic. I stepped away from contributing this past year (for personal reasons) and now... Well, now I won’t. There’s another side to this mountain we’re climbing; but fucked if I know what it is we’ll find there.
Meanwhile, I’m trying like mad to “self-inspire”: I’ve started work on the next 1EYE, ROAMING book for one thing. By chance, I visited Serif’s website and saw their apps were all 50% off, so I purchased Affinity Publisher (I already own Photo and Designer) and spent several hours going through the video tutorials, learning how to use it. It’s quite a step-up from Pages, and I’m excited to create projects with this going forward. It’s also nice to learn something new, period.
I needed to deliver client files, so I did that too.
And Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow yesterday, but Fred didn’t. The groundhog wars in full force.
I’m choosing Fred on this one.
