We didn't follow in our parent's footsteps and we don't expect our children to follow in ours. We'll never push or force anything on them; all we can do is offer possibilities.
I've been using my old X100 to teach Jacob the basics of photography, the camera set to aperture priority so he can control the exposure himself, see how depth of field is affected etc. He gets it and it's pretty great to watch. In an age of automatic everything I'm glad he's getting the chance to understand the fundamentals and take matters in his own hands instead of completely relying on a computer's algorithms. We know so little of how things work nowadays.
As a bonus he's learning to press his eye against a viewfinder... Life as it should be ;)
