Our son turned 9 and asked for one thing: his very own iPod Nano. In a way we saw it as a rite of passage. His own music, his own reality.
We ordered as soon as it was possible and chose to have it engraved. Although shipping missed his actual birthday by a few weeks — it wasn’t out yet — seeing the smile on his face when he held it in his hands for the first time was well worth the wait.
So on a lazy afternoon, with the sun streaming in through the bedroom window, Jacob explored his new personal discography while his sister listened to our family library on the iPad. Headphones ON. World OUT.
