montreal - before leaving for paris.

Three days.

Three days and I'll be on a plane, flying over the Atlantic. First, the streets of Paris until we head south on the TGV. Then, a drive along the Mediterranean and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. A whole new continent to shoot — a different light shining on new faces.

I'm looking forward to disorientation; disorientation creates new eyes to see with.

So here's one last post from Montreal — walking with my son around what we call le Vieux Port/the Old Port. Ironic when I consider where we're going…

Looking forward to seeing your pictures.  If you get a chance, do make it over to Aix en Provence, which is by far my favorite French city. To watch the markets in action, as well as the hustle and bustle of the cleanup afterwards (ca. 1 p.m., before the cafés open for lunch) is a photographer's dream.  Do take care however of the French anti-paparazzi 'privacy' laws, which technically forbids photographers to take pictures of people in public. Just be discreet, which I suspect won't be too hard with the X100.

Thanks for the suggestions. We were supposed to stay in Aix but we changed our plans… Will try to make it if possible. The French laws are similar to what we have here in Quebec so I'm sort of used to feeling like a criminal — big reason for getting the X100 (!)

Thank you Michael :)
Sorry for the late reply ( I was in France for a few weeks). I do all the post in Aperture 3 and usually apply a mixture of adjustments (Curves, Tint wheel, Vignette). I shoot in Provia to get the most range to work with but will be trying out the updated Velvia (with fixed black levels) as well - always loved the look but that problem was a pretty huge one.

i don't use RAW with this camera. Reasons are in the past archive if you're interested…
Take care
